Since the late 19th century, when Japanese prints started appearing in the west, their influence has touched generations of artists, designers and collectors. Many new collectors assume that they are beginning their collections a bit too late. An often voiced remark is, "If only I had started 5, 10, 20 years ago, I would have gotten all the great prints at bargain prices." The fact of the matter is that NOW is a perfectly appropriate time to collect. |
'The Great Wave' by Hokusai | |
While you may not be able to afford "The Great Wave" by Hokusai, you can afford a less popular print by this world famous artist. Such is the case with Utamaro, Hiroshige and many other masters. Also, there are always areas in the print market just emerging in popularity and a great joy in collecting is discovering these areas.
