Established in 1971, Things Japanese is a gallery offering for sale an extensive selection of Japanese art and antiques.

Things Japanese specializes in 18th to 20th century woodblock prints, antique porcelain and pottery, furniture, baskets, scrolls, masks, screens, dolls, kimonos, netsuke, folk art, textiles, books and more. Our wide price range and selection will accommodate all collectors, interior designers, dealers and gift givers.

Ukiyo-e ("Pictures of the floating world" from the 18th & 19th century) prints featured in the collection include designs by artists such as Harunobu, Koryusai, Utamaro, Hokusai, Toyokuni, Eisen, Eizan, Kunisada, Hiroshige, Kuniyoshi, Kunichika, Yoshitoshi and more.

Osaka (School of print design from Osaka from 19th century) prints including artists Hirosada, Ashiyuki, Sadanobu, Hokuei, Hokushu, Yoshitaki, etc.

Shin Hanga ("New Print" movement of the early to mid-20th century) prints include works by Hasui, H. Yoshida, Helen Hyde, Natori Shunsen, Shoson, Shiro, Shinsui, Jacoulet, T. Yoshida and more.

 

Sosaku Hanga ("Creative Print" movement of the 20th century) prints include the artists Kiyoshi Saito, Sekino, Watanabe, etc.

Subjects represented in the various genres of woodblock prints: Actors, women, landscape, warriors, erotic (shunga), still-life, historical.

As noted above, Things Japanese also has a diverse collection of Japanese art and antiques including Imari porcelain, Oribe and other pottery, sake cups, lacquer, tansu chests and other furniture, baskets, cotton and silk kimonos, antique textiles, kokeshi dolls, ichimatsu dolls, antique iron kettles, painted screens, painted scrolls, tsuba, contemporary ceramics and more.
